Special Education
Special Education is the core of your NW Colorado BOCES. In one way or another, every BOCES employee plays a role in enriching the learning opportunities for those with some type of disability challenging work, rewarding work, and (ask any parent) very, very important work!
The basis of special education is a federal law that requires states to provide a free and appropriate education for all children with disabilities. This legal mandate was first established in 1975, and most recently reauthorized by the Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act of 2004 (IDEIA ‘04).
More information on BOCES programs that complement school-based special education can be found on the other links under Programs. Explore our Special Education Resources link to find additional information on Special Education locally, statewide, and nationally.
