Partners Mentoring Association Programs
- Partners is a non-profit agency that matches adult volunteers (Senior Partners) with youth, ages 6-17 (Junior Partners), for a one-to-one, year long partnership.
- Partners provides regular contacts, training and support for both the adult volunteers and the youth served.
- Within the last year, the number of young people waiting for a Senior Partner has more than doubled. A dramatic rise in referrals is largely based on the knowledge that Partners is a program that makes a difference in the lives of young people.
- Youths and adults are matched together after a case manager has communicated extensively with both parties. Every effort is made to match people whose personalities and interests complement one another so that a successful partnership can be achieved.
- Partners provides monthly recreational activities and bi-monthly life-skills activities for partnerships. These activities are generally low or no-cost to the partnerships.
- When a young person is matched in a supportive mentoring relationship with a qualified adult, the youth is more likely to engage in productive and successful behaviors.
- Young people participate in the program voluntarily, with the support of their parent or guardian. The partners program philosophy is that a one-to-one relationship with a caring adult can help youth learn the skills and provide the emotional support needed to become productive adults and good citizens.
