Adolescent Services, Ongoing - Lar. Cty. Dept. of Human Services
Provides help and information about emancipation services to youth, and information and qualification about the Chafee Foster Care Independence Program. There is no formal procedure necessary to become emancipated. To be considered emancipated, the juvenile must be at least 16 yrs of age and living indepent in matters of care, custody, and earnings, or be married or in the military. If this can be clearly shown, a juvenile may then be considered emancipated. Emancipation is a status that a person finds himself in rather than a legal process that "emancipates". These services focus on developing living skills necessary to successfully live independently. The Foster Care Independence Program provides voluntary emancipation/independent living skills training to youth 16-21 who are or have been in foster care. These services are available to youth who have reached the age of 16 and are demonstrating considerable maturity. Services may include: financial planning, vocational training, education exploration and planning, individual and group counseling and on-going support services.
