In 1913, Charlotte Perry and Portia Mansfield fulfilled their dreams of creating a theater and dance camp in the mountains. Now, over ninety years later, Perry-Mansfield is recognized as the oldest continuously operating performing arts school and camp in the nation. Throughout the years, a number of distinguished alumni, faculty, and guest artists have passed through the doors of Perry-Mansfield. The list includes Robert Battle, Sammy Bayes, Jessica Biel, Ruthanna Boris, Wally Cardona, John Cage, Martha Clarke, Merce Cunningham, Harriette Ann Gray, Julie Harris, Dustin Hoffman, Hanya Holm, Lee Horsley, Doris Humphrey, Jack Lee, José Limon, Agnes de Mille, Daniel Nagrin, Peter Pucci, Jason Raize, Lee Remick, Stephen Schwartz, Amala Shankar, Ton Simons, Francis Sternhagen, Helen Tamiris, Joan Van Ark, and Charles Weidman.
Today, students from all over the world take classes from a select group of accomplished and internationally renowned faculty. The tradition of Perry-Mansfield remains unsurpassed as the camp continues to prepare emerging young artists for the stage. Recent alumni are performing with Ballet Hispanico, Battleworks Dance Company, Munich Ballet, the Paul Taylor Dance Company, Nederlands Dans Theater, and in film, on Broadway and television. Junior Camp
Junior Camp is a two-week program designed for the younger student who wants to explore the performing arts. The program offers a well-rounded curriculum that includes required classes in dance, theater and musical theater, with electives in art, creative writing and equestrian.
Discovery Day Camp
Discovery Day Camp serves as an introduction to the performing arts. Children spend their mornings taking classes in theatre, dance, music, creative writing and fine arts. Discovery students have a pre-set curriculum and do not register for classes. Each afternoon, they participate in traditional camp activities such as hiking and local field trips.
Pre-Professional Intensive
Pre-Professional Intensive is a program designed for the serious student interested in pursuing a career in the arts. Class placements and production casting for theater, dance and musical productions are held within the first few days of camp. Residential students take five classes daily and participate in evening rehearsals six days a week. Saturday is the only full day off.
