Center for Legal Advocacy

Colorado has long been recognized as a leader in the national disability rights movement with advocacy organizations such as the Atlantis Community, ADAPT, the Colorado Cross Disability Coalition and The Legal Center leading the charge. These organizations as well as others, contributed to the nationwide activism that led to the signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act on July 26, 1990. In recognition of the anniversary of the signing of the ADA and Colorado organizations’ continuing contribution to disability rights activism, the Colorado General Assembly has proclaimed that the week of July 26, 2009 shall be recognized as Disability History Week in Colorado. Program:

Helping individuals with disabilities

The Legal Center is an independent public interest non-profit specializing in civil rights and discrimination issues. We protect the human, civil and legal rights of people with mental and physical disabilities, people with HIV, and older people throughout Colorado.

The Legal Center's primary goal is to open up the legal system to those who would otherwise be unable to voice their needs because of the complexity of the service bureaucracy, their disability or because they are unable to act on their own behalf.
